What are temporary teaching permits or certifications, and what are my next steps to obtain a standard certificate?
- Non-Renewable Permit (NRP): available for individuals who have not successfully passed are appropriate TeXes content exams required for Standard certification, but has completed all degree and course requirements of a UNIVERSITY educator preparation program.
- Alternative Certification Program (ACP): individuals who hold an Intern or Probationary Certificate are on the ACP pathway to teacher certification.
- Emergency Teaching Permit (ETP): An ETP is recommended by the employing school district when a certified educator needs to pass a content exam. In addition, ETPs are issued for those in ACPs with the use of a Deficiency Plan (this is issued by the ACP).
- One-Year Certificate (OYC): The state of Texas does not have reciprocity with any state; therefore, those who hold a certificate to teach in another state or country can apply for their credentials to be reviewed and awarded a One-year Certificate.
